About DRPT

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) is the state sponsor for Try Transit Week 2008.

As the state agency for rail, transit and transportation demand management, DRPT works with more than 150 transit partners and operators, 12 freight railroads and 15 commuter assistance agencies.

DRPT's mission is to improve mobility and expand transportation choices in Virginia.

DRPT supports increased transportation options by:

• Advocating the importance of transportation choices at the state level.
• Providing technical assistance to transportation operators seeking to expand or improve service.
• Administering grants for state and federal funding to rail, public transportation and transportation demand management agencies or programs. These funds are used to begin, maintain or expand transportation service options.
