About the event

Try Transit Week began in 2005 to promote the use of public transportation or any other alternative to single occupant vehicle travel in Richmond. This year, the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) has expanded Try Transit Week to a statewide event because using transit can help address some of the challenges facing Virginia.

Try Transit Week is from September 22-25, 2008. The event educates Virginians about transportation options other than driving alone, and it seeks to increase participation in those options.

So how does Try Transit Week work?

If you already use transit or are interested in trying it for the first time, you can pledge to use transit during the week of September 22-25. When you pledge to try transit, you will be automatically entered for a chance to win a one year transit pass to the transit operator of your choice to ride free for a year!* In addition, your pledge could help your locality win the contest for the highest number of pledges.

If you aren’t sure where to begin, or if you aren’t sure what options are available in your area, explore this Try Transit Web site to learn about the benefits of using transit and the transit options in your area.

* See contest rules and regulations at Pledge now for details.
